NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An FDNY firefighter was killed in a hit-and-run motorcycle crash on the FDR Drive early Thursday.
At around 3:45 a.m., Matthew Goicochea, 31, was riding his motorcycle on the FDR Drive when he fell off onto the roadway and was struck by a car. The driver continued driving.
Goicochea was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"The FDNY mourns the loss of Firefighter Matthew Goicochea, who tragically passed away early Thursday morning," the FDNY wrote on X. "Goicochea was riding his motorcycle on the FDR drive when he collided with another vehicle."
The FDNY said another vehicle was involved in the crash.
There have been no arrests made.
Goicochea joined the Department in September of 2022, and was a recipient of the Thomas Wylie Medal in 2024 for rescuing an unconscious victim from a fire in the Bronx.
