Fire engulfs Queens synagogue, 2 firefighters suffer minor injuries

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A fire tore through a synagogue on the border of Queens and Nassau County on Thursday morning.

The fire was reported around 12:25 a.m. at The Beach Shul on Seagirt Avenue, near Beach 2nd Street, in Far Rockaway, the FDNY said.


Citizen App video shows flames and smoke rising from the building after 12:30 a.m. The fire spread through the first floor and the roof, according to officials.

No one at the synagogue was injured, but two firefighters suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The fire was eventually brought under control and the Torahs were saved, according to officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
