Flaming couch injures 7 at Manhattan high-rise: FDNY

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A fire that started on a couch in a Manhattan apartment building hallway early Monday morning injured seven people, according to the FDNY.

At around 12:40 a.m. fire officials located a couch on fire in hallway on the eighth floor of a 13 story high-rise building on Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side.

Nearly 80 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene and were able to bring the flames under control by 1:16 a.m.

At least three people were transported to area hospitals and four others refused medical attention.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by fire marshals.
