Passersby grab marijuana from garbage bag thrown off Brooklyn rooftop during botched drug deal

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man who was attacked during a botched drug deal on a Brooklyn rooftop threw a bag full of marijuana onto the street below, where bystanders grabbed the drug and fled in different directions, police said Wednesday.

It all started when a 29-year-old man arranged to meet with several people on the rooftop of a building at Eighth Avenue and 46th Street in Sunset Park on the night of June 1, according to police.

When the man arrived at the rooftop around 11:15 p.m., the people he was meeting with pulled a gun and attacked him, police said.

The assailants punched and kicked the man and then tried to steal a garbage bag full of marijuana that he had, according to police.

The man threw the garbage bag off of the rooftop, police said. The bag landed in front of the building, sending marijuana scattering across the sidewalk.

Bystanders on the street below began taking the marijuana and fleeing in different directions, according to police.

The people who attacked the 29-year-old man then fled the building in a black BMW sedan and drove off down 46th Street, police said.

The 29-year-old suffered lacerations to his face and bruises to his body. He was taken by EMS to an area hospital.

The NYPD on Wednesday released surveillance video of the suspects in the attack.
