NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A woman and the good Samaritan who tried to help her were both hospitalized early Sunday morning after a violent street attack in the Bronx, according to police.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:34 a.m. in the vicinity of West 183rd Street and Grand Avenue in University Heights. A 36-year-old woman became involved in a verbal dispute with a group of unidentified individuals, which one suspect escalated to a physical altercation, authorities said.
When a 37-year-old man stepped in to intervene, the suspect struck the victim in the head with a blunt object, causing a laceration, and slashed her arm with an unknown sharp object. The suspect then turned on the male bystander, stabbing and slashing him multiple times in the back, police said.
The attacker then fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV traveling eastbound on Evelyn Place. EMS transported both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital, where they are listed in stable condition.

Police released surveillance photos of the suspect Monday, and described him as a man with a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a multi-colored shirt, a white tank top, and light-colored shorts.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
