NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A group of men attacked an off-duty NYPD officer and stole his gun during a fight outside a Hell’s Kitchen restaurant on Friday morning, police said.

The off-duty cop was getting food with a friend at an eatery at Ninth Avenue and W. 51st Street around 4:30 a.m. when the pair got into an argument with four other men, according to police.

The dispute turned physical, and the officer was assaulted, police said.

The cop's gun was stolen; police said it either fell on the floor during the altercation or one of the suspects grabbed it from him.

The group fled the scene in a gray Dodge Charger with the firearm, police said.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

It's unclear what sparked the fight. An investigation is ongoing.

Police said the stolen firearm was the officer's personal gun, not his service weapon.
