NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Temperatures in NYC will soar into the upper 90s—and RealFeels past 100 degrees—much of this week as a heat wave grips the city going into the July 4 holiday.
A so-called “heat dome,” or large area of high pressure, will trap heat in place over the region, just as the Tri-State celebrates America’s 250th birthday with a host of planned events.
"We are expecting some really, truly extreme heat over the next week," Gov. Kathy Hochul said at an America 250 event on Sunday. The governor urged people to prioritize their safety in the hot weather. She said the state is also monitoring the stress on the energy grid.

The National Weather Service issued an Extreme Heat Watch from Wednesday afternoon to Friday evening for most of the area.
“Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 110 degrees possible during the daytime hours,” the NWS wrote in its alert.
While the week starts relatively mild, with a high of 85 degrees on Monday, highs will reach 89 on Tuesday and 95 by Wednesday.

On Thursday and Friday, highs are set to near 100 in the city, AccuWeather says. It will be about 93 on Saturday for the Fourth of July.
RealFeels are expected to surge over 100 degrees on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday amid the high humidity, AccuWeather says.
Thursday’s high of 99 will approach—and could break—the record high of 100, set on July 2, 1966.
Temperatures are expected to cool to the 80s starting next week.
