NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A hit-and-run driver was arrested after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian near the FDR Drive on Manhattan's East Side on Tuesday night, police said.
Jonathan Sutherland, 23 of Queens, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, leaving the scene of an accident and refusing to take a breath test late Tuesday night, the NYPD said Wednesday.
The pedestrian, a 29-year-old man, was attempting to cross a service road near the FDR Drive and E. 26th Street in Kips Bay when Sutherland hit him around 10:15 p.m., according to police.
The 29-year-old was found lying on the roadway with trauma to his head, the NYPD said. Sutherland allegedly fled the scene after the crash, police said.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

About a half-hour later, officers responded to another collision on the northbound FDR Drive, near E. 53rd Street, police said.
Responding officers found a black 2007 Honda Accord disabled with Sutherland injured behind the wheel, according to police.
Sutherland was taken into custody under suspicion of DWI and transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was being treated for minor injuries.
The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash.
The 29-year-old victim has not been identified. An investigation is ongoing.
