NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The House of Representatives ethics committee said Wednesday that they are investigating Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for an unspecified alleged violation of congressional rules.
Ocasio-Cortez, who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens, will face the investigation next year under the new Republican-led Congress.
The committee’s heads, Rep. Susan Wild (D-Pennsylvania) and Rep. Michael Guest (R-Mississippi), did not indicate what the investigation is for but said it was an extension of a matter first brought to the committee on June 23 of this year.
“The Congresswoman has always taken ethics incredibly seriously, refusing any donations from lobbyists, corporations, or other special interests,” a spokeswoman for Ocasio-Cortez told the Daily News. “We are confident that this matter will be dismissed.”
Most often, lawmakers who face ethics violations accusations face minor consequences, with the rare few undergoing more serious criminal investigations with political implications.
