NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A traveler was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport with $300,000 worth of cocaine and a handgun in his luggage, authorities say.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers searching Elijah Davis’ bags after he flew into JFK Airport from Jamaica on May 21 found a handgun and 40 9mm rounds inside one of them, the agency said Tuesday.
When the officers searched another bag belonging to Davis, they discovered several packages filled with a white powder that was later confirmed to be cocaine, according to the agency.
The cocaine weighed around 10 pounds and was worth approximately $300,000, the agency said.
Officers also found a small bag of marijuana in one of Davis’ bags, according to the agency. He faces federal narcotics smuggling charges in connection with his arrest, the agency said.
“This seizure demonstrates the vigilance and dedication demonstrated daily by CBP officers at our port of entries while keeping these dangerous narcotics off the streets of our communities,” CBP’s acting director for its New York Field Office, Marty Raybon, said in a statement.
Davis’ attorney information wasn’t immediately available Wednesday.
