NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The former leader of Shomrim, an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood watch group in Brooklyn that works as an auxiliary to the NYPD, pleaded guilty on Friday to repeatedly raping an underage teenage girl, according to the Department of Justice.

Jacob Daskal, 64, met the 15-year-old girl “as a result of his position with Shomrim” in 2017 and groomed her for sexual abuse, federal prosecutors said.

Most of their sexual encounters happened in Daskal’s Brooklyn home, but he also brought her across state lines to New Jersey and to Upstate New york.

He would frequently instruct his victim to keep their relationship secret and threaten to “ruin her life” while emphasizing his connections to the NYPD and influential community members.

Daskal agreed to a sentence of 14 to 17-and-a-half years in prison as part of his plea deal. He will also register as a sex offender.

“The defendant has admitted he abused his power, trust and position in the community by committing deplorable acts against a child in his care,” stated U.S. Attorney Breon Peace. “We want victims everywhere to hear this guilty plea as our Office’s continued declaration that no one is above the law and we will bring those who violate our children to justice.”
