NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The 96th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is ready to kick-off another year of holiday magic featuring new additions and old favorites.
Here’s everything you need to know about the event.
When Does The Parade Start?
The parade will begin at 8:45 a.m. at Central Park West and 77th Street.
What’s The Parade Route?
After kicking off the 2.5-mile route at Central Park West and 77th Street, marchers will travel down to Columbus Circle where they will turn onto Central Park South.
Once the parade reaches 6th Avenue it will turn south and march down 6th Avenue until it reaches 34th Street, where it will make its final turn towards Macy’s Herald Square and end at 7th Avenue.
What’s New This Year?
There are several new additions to the parade this year, both floats and balloons! Beloved children’s character Bluey will be making her balloon debut along with Diary of A Wimpy Kid, DINO and Baby DINO and Stuart the Minion.
A Baby Shark float will also be a part of the parade this year as well as a Geoffrey’s Dazzling Dance Party by Toys“R”Us float. Netflix will feature a “Supersized Slumber” float and Wonder will have a “Wondership.”
Celebrity appearances will also be plenty with names like Paula Abdul, Sean Paul, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, Mario Lopez, Jordin Sparks and the cast of the Muppets appearing on the parade’s many stages and floats.
Where Can I Watch The Parade?
While there are many places to watch the parade along the route, there will be no way to avoid crowds.
At the start of the parade route, there is no (or limited) public viewing. Early risers tend to camp out starting at 6 a.m. on the west side of Central Park from West 75th Street to West 59th Street to get the best views.
Public viewing it not available at Columbus Circle but there are great views on Sixth Avenue between West 59th and West 38th streets.
It’s best to avoid watching on the major avenue between West 34th and West 38th streets and on West 34th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues as there will be limited public viewing with the national television broadcasts.
No public viewing is available in front of the Macy’s store.
How Can I Watch At Home?
The parade will be broadcasted live on NBC from 9 a.m. to noon.

The following streets will be closed at 8 a.m. Thursday:
West 77th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue
West 81st Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue
Central Park West between West 77th and 86th Streets
