NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani called out Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday for several decisions he's making in his last months in office, saying that it's "no surprise" the mayor is using his remaining time "to cement a legacy of dysfunction and inconsistency."

While visiting with Pre-K students at Friends of Crown Heights Education Center in Flatbush on Thursday, Mamdani took questions from the press and criticized Adams' decision to designate the Elizabeth Street Garden as city parkland, putting a damper on a controversial and long-contested plan to build affordable housing for seniors on the site.

"What New Yorkers are looking forward to is a City Hall where they can expect taking on these crises as opposed to creating them themselves," Mamdani said.

The mayor is also reportedly planning to stack the rent guidelines board with pro-landlord appointees before he leaves Gracie Mansion, complicating Mamdani's campaign promise to freeze the rent for New Yorkers living in rent-stabilized units.

Despite these apparent jabs at the democratic socialist's agenda, he did have some words of praise for the Adams administration as a whole as he moves forward with transitionary actions over the next seven weeks.

"I will say that while I vehemently disagree with a number of the decisions that he's taken, his administration has also been open in the transition work that we are doing," Mamdani said, before noting that he is looking forward to sitting down with Adams upon the mayor's return from a trip to Israel.
