NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 24-year-old was charged Saturday with fatally stabbing a man in an Upper Manhattan subway station the night before, police said.
Diego Figueroa-Hepner was arrested at 2:10 a.m. on Saturday morning and is charged with murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The murder took place near a turnstile on the mezzanine of the 175th Street A train station in Washington Heights at about 5:55 p.m. on Friday, officials said.
Johnny Medina, who lived in the neighborhood, was stabbed multiple times following a dispute. The 40-year-old was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem where he was pronounced dead at 6:33 p.m.
Sources told 1010 WINS that Figueroa-Hepner and Medina knew each other and were engaged in a fight over an issue on social media before the argument turned violent.
According to the addresses released by police, Figueroa-Hepner and Medina lived in buildings across the street from one another in 172nd Street.
"This was a senseless attack that spilled from the street to the subway, and we appreciate the NYPD's rapid investigation, using video from transit cameras, to identify and arrest the suspect within hours," MTA Communications Director Tim Minton said in a statement.
