Man, 56, fatally jumps from tony UES building

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) –A man is believed to have jumped from a tony Upper East Side building on Tuesday, police said.

The super of the building identified the man as Thomas Cooper, 56,  a resident and broker with Douglas Elliman, according to the  New York Post.

Cooper, who left a suicide note, is believed to have jumped from the top floor of 18 East 67th Street.

He was discovered on the sidewalk at around  7:20 a.m.

Emergency medical services transported him to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Vincent Scaldaferri, the site supervisor, was arriving at work when he saw a body plummeting to the ground, he told the New York Post.

He initially thought it was a sack of laundry, but upon taking a closer look, he realized it was a man.

The victim, described as wearing khaki shorts and a white T-shirt, had a gray beard and glasses.

Scaldaferri quickly called 911 within.

The reasons behind his jump remain unclear at this time.
