Man, 75, killed in East Village apartment fire

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 75-year-old man died in a Manhattan apartment fire on Sunday morning, according to the FDNY.

The blaze began on the second floor of the six-story dwelling located at 65 Second Ave. in the East Village.

Twelve units of 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene just after 10:20 a.m.

Firefighters discovered the victim, a 75-year-old man, dead inside the burning building.

The medical examiner will determine the victim’s exact cause of death, officials said. His identity was not immediately released.

Two other occupants were injured and evaluated for minor injuries, the FDNY said.

The fire was under control around 11:10 a.m. and fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.
