NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 78-year-old man was taken into police custody in connection to a fatal stabbing inside a Manhattan high-rise building late Tuesday night.
Just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, police responded to a 911 call for an assault in progress inside of the Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence located at 475 West 57th St. in Hell's Kitchen.
Upon arrival, officers observed a 71-year-old man with a stab wound to the back and a 78-year-old man with slash wounds to both hands.
EMS transported the 71-year-old man to Mount Sinai Morningside where he was pronounced dead.
The 78-year-old man was taken into custody and transported by EMS to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition.
Officials recovered a kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, at the scene.
The two men were roommates, the Daily News reported.
According to its website, the Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence houses "low-income individuals within the entertainment community, seniors and persons living with HIV/AIDS."
An investigation remains ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
