NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Queens man was robbed of cash and jewels early Monday by three thieves who ambushed him outside his home and forced their way inside at gunpoint, police said.
The victim was exiting his car outside his townhouse at Ditmars Boulevard and 29th Avenue in East Elmhurst shortly before 2 a.m. when three men hopped out of an SUV, cornered him at gunpoint and demanded to go inside the home, according to police.
Once inside the residence, they stole tens of thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry, police said.
The suspects then fled in the silver, four-door SUV. No further description of the suspects, or video of them, has been released.
The victim was not injured in the home invasion.
As the investigation continued Monday, plainclothes detectives were seen going in and out of the home, which is located just south of LaGuardia Airport.
Many neighbors were too afraid to speak about the robbery, but some said they believe the victim may have been targeted over high-end cars in the driveway.
