NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man was arrested on Saturday after attempting to scam a woman on Long Island, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Police said an 84-year-old woman received a call around 7:30 p.m. from a man claiming that her grandson had been arrested and needed $9,800 for bail.

Suspecting a scam, the woman contacted police to report the incident and ask for assistance.

Officers responded to the victim’s home in Westbury and coordinated a plan to lure the scammer to her residence. When the suspect, identified as Etienne Jackson, 39, arrived, police arrested him without incident.

Jackson was charged with attempted grand larceny.

The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
