
LINDENHURST, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Manhattan man was arrested for allegedly stabbing an off-duty NYPD officer who had intervened to stop him from stealing from a parked vehicle in Lindenhurst.
At approximately 1:05 a.m. on 40th Street, near Buffalo Avenue in Lindenhurst, when two brothers—both off-duty NYPD officers—observed a man getting into a parked car in a driveway.
When they approached the suspect, he immediately attempted to flee on foot. They pursued him and caught up to him several hundred yards down the block.
It was there that the suspect allegedly stabbed one of them in the left leg. They were able to hold him until Suffolk County Police arrived.
The 28-year-old officer who was stabbed was transported to a local hospital. Officials reported the injury as serious but non-life-threatening.
Royal Hooks, 27, was charged with assault and petit larceny. He is being held pending arraignment.
