NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Bronx man has been arrested for allegedly hitting another man in the back of the head with a hammer on a subway platform earlier this week, police said.

Jose Moreno, 47, of Mott Haven, was arrested and charged with assault on Friday, the NYPD said.

Police say a 46-year-old man was on the A train platform at the 175th Street Station in Washington Heights around 11 a.m. on Jan. 10 when Moreno attacked him with the hammer.

The man ran from Moreno and sought help from a booth clerk, police said. EMS treated him for head pain at the scene, but he declined further medical attention, the NYPD said.

Police didn't say why Moreno attacked the man or whether the two knew each other. Moreno's attorney information wasn't immediately available Friday.
