NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a suspect wanted for beating and robbing a woman after asking to use her cellphone last month in the Bronx, authorities said Wednesday.
Just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, a 24-year-old woman was sitting by the water at the Castle Hill Park located at the corner Hart Street and Castle Hill Avenue, when the suspect approached the victim and asked to see her cellphone to make a call.
The victim refused and the suspect then snatched the cellphone from her hand, officials said.
After a brief struggle, the suspect repeatedly struck the victim in the head and face with a closed fist.
He then fled on foot to parts unknown with the woman's cellphone.
The value of the victim's Apple iPhone 14 cellphone was approximately $1,000, the NYPD said.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black hat, black shirt, black shorts, and multi-color sneakers and carrying a fanny pack wrapped around his waist.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
