NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man hit a four-year-old boy's head in Times Square Thursday around 3:20 p.m., prompting his mother and a good Samaritan to tackle and restrain him until police arrived, authorities say.

Babacar Mbaye, 34, kicked one of the officers arresting him near 46th Street and 7th Avenue, according to police.

Officials are considering charging him with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration in addition to the charge for assaulting a child under 11 years old.

If he is convicted for assaulting an officer, Mbaye would face two years to life in prison.

Unreleased security footage reviewed by the New York Post shows Mbaye swinging an object at the child followed by the boy's mother and another woman rushing down the famous Times Square red bleachers to tackle the man and hold him down.

Mbaye was on supervised release following three misdemeanor charges that included assaulting other strangers.

New York City Criminal Court Judge Jay Weiner ordered Mbaye's bail set at $30,000.

He's scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday.
