NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was indicted on Thursday for attacking a subway passenger unprovoked with a wooden plank and pushing him onto the tracks at the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station last month, prosecutors said.
Li De Ming, 42, was carrying a plank of wood on Nov. 1, walking back and forth on the southbound platform.
At around 10:12 a.m., he approached a 28-year-old man from behind while the victim had left the 6 train and was looking down at his cellphone.
De Ming struck the man on the back of the head with the plank and then pushed him onto the tracks, without provocation.
The victim was able to climb back onto the platform but suffered a gash to his head, along with scrapes, bruises, and severe pain in his head, arms, and legs.
The suspect fled the scene but was arrested the following day.
The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
“As alleged, Li De Ming attacked a stranger when he pushed him onto the train tracks, putting his life at risk,” Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg said. “Thankfully, the victim was able to return to the safety of the subway platform and avoid further injury. My office will continue working diligently to hold those accountable who threaten the basic safety of Manhattan subway riders. I wish the victim a full and speedy recovery.”
De Ming faces charges including attempted murder, attempted assault and assault.
