NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Westchester County man was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after breaking an 8-week-old, 1.3-pound kitten’s femur bone.

SPCA Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit (HLE), under the direction of Ernest Lungaro, along with Mt. Vernon Police Officer Brianna Mecca, investigated the incident after they received a complaint from a Mount Vernon local.
Erby Charlemagne hit the animal with a broomstick and threw it on the wall according to investigators. The kitten was later taken to the animal hospital where it was determined that its femur bone had been broken due to the attack.
“We will never understand how someone could be so cruel to an innocent animal,” Westchester executive director of SPCA Shannon Laukhuf said. “We hope this poor, defenseless kitten can recover from this vicious act.”
The abused kitten survived and is currently in good hands.
