NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police on Monday released surveillance footage of a man sought in connection with an attempted robbery that occurred on an Upper East Side subway station last month.
On December 14, 2020 at 4:10 p.m., a 45-year-old man was sitting on board a northbound Q train when the unknown individual grabbed his cellphone out of his hand as the train pulled into the 2 Avenue/East 72 Street subway station, according to officials.
The would-be mugger then fled the train but was pursued by the victim, police said.
A brief struggle ensued between the two on the platform, where police said the suspect punched the victim in the face and chest multiple times with a closed fist.
The victim was able to recover his cellphone from the suspect, who then fled the station heading northbound on 2 Avenue.
The victim sustained only minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene, authorities said.
Police describe the suspect as a man with a dark complexion and a slim build.

He was last seen wearing a blue face mask, a black Under Armour hooded sweatshirt, black pants and brown sneakers officials said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
