NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man is in critical condition after he tried to stop a carjacker from taking off in his vehicle on a Bronx street Thursday morning, sources told 1010 WINS.

The carjacking occurred near 2900 Wilkinson Ave. in Pelhalm Bay just before noon, according to police.

Sources said that the victim left his black Infiniti unoccupied and running when another car pulled up next to it. A suspect quickly jumped out of the car, got behind the wheel of the Infiniti and drove off.

In an attempt to stop the suspect from getting away, the victim jumped up on the hood of the Infiniti but fell off and was pulled with the vehicle as the carjacker drove, sources said.

Gonzalo Corridori is a chiropractor with an office right where it happened. Surveillance footage from his practice shows the Infiniti barreling down the street with the victim attached to the driver’s side window, his legs being dragged along with the car.

“They come flying down the block, very high rate of speed, maybe 40 miles an hour,” Corridori said. “Swerving back and forth, almost hitting all the cars on the side and finally hitting the car down the block about a block away.”

The victim was left with serious, life-threatening injuries to his head and leg and was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition, source said.

Corridori said that when the victim fell off the Infiniti, the other car involved appeared to hit him as he was on the ground. One of his employees saw the victim and said he seemed to be in bad shape.

“The victim on the ground with his leg very mangled,” he said.

Police are searching for a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and green shorts who is believed to be the carjacker, sources said. They are also seeking three other people who were in the other vehicle.

Debris was visible all along the street, and damage to a nearby parked car that may have been hit in the incident was evident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
