Man driving scooter fatally collides with box truck on UES

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials are investigating after a man driving a scooter fatally collided with a box truck in Manhattan on Monday evening, authorities said.

Police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision at First Avenue and 76th Street on the Upper East Side at 5:10 p.m.

Preliminary investigation determined that the operator of a Jiajue scooter traveling northbound on First Avenue in the left lane struck a parked 2019 Freightliner Box Truck.

The operator of the e-bike was identified as 31-year-old Salvador Navarette-Flores.

Flores was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/ Weill Cornell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Unit.
