NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday and is facing federal charges in the fatal shooting of a 69-year-old grandmother with a walker in East Harlem last week.
Faisil McCants is accused of firing 15 rounds from a machine gun on a public street on August 27, striking and killing Robin Wright near East 110th Street and Madison Avenue.
Wright, who was with a friend and using a walker at the time, was not the intended target. She was caught in the crossfire of what police believe to be a gang-related dispute over drug dealing.
McCants was apprehended with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations. He was taken into custody after checking in with his probation officer.
In addition to the federal charge of possessing a machine gun, McCants faces state charges from the NYPD, including murder, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to appear in federal court on Friday.
