NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A man was indicted on attempted murder charges for a spree of stabbings in Queens earlier this month that hospitalized two men and for allegedly assaulting an NYPD officer once he was detained, prosecutors said on Friday.
Feruz Radjabov, 40, was arraigned Friday on two counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault, attempted assault, assault on a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced.
At about 5:05 p.m. on Aug. 7, Radjabov approached a 25-year-old man pumping gas at a Mobil gas station located at 100-03 North Conduit Ave. in Ozone Park and stabbed him in the left shoulder before fleeing the scene, the charges allege.
He was then spotted a few moments later on the northbound platform of the nearby Aqueduct-North Conduit Avenue A train station, where he is accused of approaching a 67-year-old grandfather and stabbing him once in the neck.
Both victims were transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, authorities said. The younger victim was treated and discharged, but the 67-year-old man had to undergo surgery to repair his trachea and jugular vein. He is still hospitalized.
After the second stabbing, Radjabov entered the subway tracks and was apprehended from the Rockaway-bound tracks, prosecutors said. Officials recovered a knife from his pocket.
Police took Radjabov to the 106th Precinct. While there, he is accused of striking an officer in the face, causing a laceration to the lip and a chipped tooth.
"Two New Yorkers—a subway commuter and a motorist—were stabbed in completely unprovoked acts of violence allegedly by this defendant," Katz said. "The lives of these two men are forever changed after this senseless attack and my office will aggressively prosecute this case to ensure that justice is achieved."
Radjabov, an undomiciled man whose last known address was in Midwood, Brooklyn on East 10th Street, faces up to 65 years in prison if convicted of the top charges.
He was ordered to return to court on Sept. 17.
