NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Brooklyn man was indicted Thursday for allegedly wounding two people in an unprovoked slashing spree at the Grand Central subway station on Christmas Eve.
Jason Sargeant, 28, was charged by indictment with attempted murder, as well as multiple counts of assault, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the attack on the night of Dec. 24.
According to a criminal complaint, it all started when Sargeant pulled the emergency brake on an uptown 5 train, shouted “F*** these people” and took to the 4/5/6 platform at Grand Central around 10 p.m.
He allegedly waved a knife on the platform, scaring a large group of people, who ran away from him.
He then ascended the stairs to the mezzanine, where his first victim, a 42-year-old man, was sitting and waiting for his girlfriend, prosecutors said.
Sargeant slashed the man’s left wrist, causing “profuse bleeding,” according to prosecutors, who said the victim suffered a large laceration, and nerve and muscle damage.

Sargeant continued to roam the mezzanine while yelling and wielding the knife, setting his sights on a 26-year-old woman at a turnstile, who he punched in the back of the head, prosecutors said.
The sucker punch knocked the woman’s phone to the ground, and when she went to pick it up, Sargeant allegedly kicked the device away from her and stood directly across from her.
He then lunged at her, cutting her neck and causing some bleeding, prosecutors said.
After the attacks, he rode the escalator up to the Grand Central concourse, where he was arrested by MTA police, who found a bloody knife in his jacket pocket, according to prosecutors.
“As alleged, Jason Sargeant attacked two people in the Grand Central Subway Station without provocation on Christmas Eve. Millions of New Yorkers and tourists alike visit Manhattan over the holidays and must be safe when doing so,” Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg said in a statement. “Those who commit acts of violence in our subway system will be held accountable. I hope the victims continue to heal from this terrifying attack.”
