NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man was struck and killed by a subway train at a Lower East Side subway station early Friday, leading to the hours-long suspension of subway lines between Manhattan and Brooklyn, officials said.
The NYPD and FDNY received calls around 6:45 a.m. about a man struck at the Delancey Street/Essex Street station.
Officers arrived at the scene to find the man—believed to be in his 40s—unconscious and unresponsive on the tracks, police said.
EMS pronounced him dead at the scene, according to officials.
At this point, it’s unclear if he jumped, fell or was pushed onto the tracks, police said.
The incident had major impacts on subway service. J, M and Z trains were suspended between Manhattan and Brooklyn around 7 a.m. and didn't resume full service until shortly before 10 a.m., with delays lingering.
