Man, 74, killed, woman critically injured hours apart in NYC hit-run crashes

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A 74-year-old man was killed in Queens, and a 36-year-old woman critically injured in Brooklyn, in separate hit-and-run crashes on Sunday, police said.

The 74-year-old, identified as Be Tran, was crossing Myrtle Avenue at Hancock Street in Ridgewood around 7:40 p.m. when he was struck by a black BMW.

The BMW fled the area southbound on Seneca Avenue after the crash, police said.

Tran, of Queens, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Less than five hours earlier, around 2:50 p.m., the 36-year-old woman was crossing Pacific Street at Buffalo Avenue in Crown Heights when a Mercury Mountaineer SUV traveling in reverse down Pacific Street struck her before fleeing the scene.

The woman was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where she was listed in critical condition.

The NYPD’s collision squad is investigating both crashes.

No arrests have been reported.
