
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A young man was killed and his wife wounded on Sunday after they were struck in a drive-by shooting as their car traveled along I-95 in the Bronx.
The shooting happened at about 5:49 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-95 in the southwest Bronx, police said.
A 27-year-old man was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla with two 21-year-old passengers, a man and woman, in the car.
The passengers were spouses, sources told 1010 WINS.
An unknown suspect driving an unknown vehicle shot at the Toyota and struck the married couple before fleeing to parts unknown.
The husband was hit in the head, his wife was struck in the shoulder and the driver was uninjured, police said.
About 15 minutes after the shooting, police responded to Columbia University Irving Medical Center in Washington Heights and discovered the two victims.
EMS transported them to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem where the male victim was pronounced dead. Release of his identity is pending proper family notification.
The female victim is in stable condition.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately clear. There have been no arrests and an investigation is ongoing.
