NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was fatally struck by a subway train at the Union Square station during Wednesday's morning rush, police said.
The 45-year-old victim plunged off the Brooklyn-bound L platform and onto the tracks around 8:20 a.m.
He was then struck by an oncoming train, police said.
It's unclear how he ended up on the tracks. Police initially said he was looking at his cellphone and tripped, but police and the MTA were later unable to confirm that detail.
No criminality is suspected in his death, according to the MTA.
L trains were running with extensive delays in both directions into the afternoon.
