
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad launched an investigation after a man on a scooter was fatally struck by a sanitation truck Tuesday night in Brooklyn, authorities said.
Just before 8 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision at Ditmas Avenue and Rockaway Avenue in Canarsie.

Preliminary investigation determined that a 55-year-old man driving an NYC sanitation garbage truck was traveling eastbound on Ditmas Avenue and was turning right onto southbound Rockaway Avenue when he struck another 55-year-old man who was riding an electric scooter.
According to officials, the unidentified victim was also traveling eastbound on Ditmas Avenue and attempted to pass the sanitation truck on the passenger side before being struck.
The victim was transported to Brookdale Hospital, via EMS, where he was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.
The driver of the sanitation truck remained at the scene and was not injured.
An investigation is ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.
