NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 36-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of a man in front of a Far Rockaway deli in December 2019, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Tuesday.

Michael Hall, of Far Rockaway, is expected to be sentenced on May 23 to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty on Monday to first-degree manslaughter.

Hall was standing in front of a deli convenience store near the intersection of Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 88th Street around 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2019, when he confronted 45-year-old Dion Gumby, according to the charges.

Gumby approached the convenience store and talked briefly with Hall, the district attorney's office said.

At that time, Hall brandished a gun and fired multiple times at the victim, causing gunshot wounds to his abdomen, torso and arm. Gumby succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Hall fled from the scene and was arrested approximately two weeks later.

"As a result of his guilty plea, this defendant has taken responsibility for the December 2019 shooting that caused the death of the victim in Far Rockaway," Katz said.

"The defendant is now expected to serve a lengthy prison term when he is sentenced later this month," she added. "We will not relent in our efforts to hold drivers of crime accountable for their actions."
