NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man plummeted to his death from a Brooklyn public housing building on Wednesday morning, police said.

The unidentified man plunged from a building at Dumont and Rockaway avenues in Brownsville around 9:45 a.m.

The man was found unconscious and unresponsive behind a New York City Housing Authority building, according to police, who said he had injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated location.

There are a number of multistory residential buildings in the area that are part of the Brownsville and Tilden houses.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

An investigation is ongoing, but police believe the man may have purposely jumped.
