
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An off-duty NYPD officer was slashed by a shoplifter as he worked security at a Duane Reade in Midtown Manhattan early Wednesday, police said.

The 52-year-old officer was attacked just after midnight as he confronted a woman for stealing items from the store near Eighth Avenue and W. 44th Street, according to police.
The cop, who was working a paid detail at the time, suffered a slash wound to his shoulder, police said. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
The 33-year-old suspect, Domonique Lax, was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges, including assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and robbery.
