Man, 32, repeatedly slashed by panhandler aboard UWS subway train

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is investigating after a man riding a Manhattan subway train was repeatedly slashed by a panhandler early Monday morning, authorities said.

The incident happened at around 3 a.m. when the 32-year-old victim was aboard a 1 train approaching 103rd Street station on the Upper West Side when he was approached by the suspect who demanded money from him, police said.

The victim refused and the panhandler slashed the man on the left hand and thigh, officials said.

The suspect took $40 from the victim. He was taken to Harlem Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The victim got off the train at the following stop at 137th Street and the suspect got off two stops later at 125th Street in Harlem, according to police.

An investigation is ongoing.
