NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – One driver was killed and another critically injured in a crash on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx early Sunday morning, authorities said.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., 22-year-old Justin Francisco was driving a Honda Accord and lost control on the wet roads and hit a dividing wall, according to the NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad.

Francisco then exited the Honda in the southbound left lane just before Exit 10 in Kingsbridge to inspect the car when a 61-year-old man driving a Subaru crashed into the parked Honda pushing the car forward and striking Francisco.

He was then thrown over the center wall into oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes, where he was struck a second time by a 37-year-old man driving a Jeep Wrangler, officials said.

The Jeep continued to slide on the wet highway and the driver was partially ejected through the soft top roof of the car.

EMS pronounced Francisco dead at the scene.

The 37-year-old Jeep driver was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The Deegan was closed for hours after the crash.

An investigation remains ongoing.
