Man robbed, punched by group on subway train in Manhattan: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a group that allegedly robbed a man of his phone, wallet and other belongings after punching him in the face on a subway train in Manhattan earlier this week.

The 31-year-old man was riding a southbound A train in Washington Heights around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday when four males of an unknown age boarded the train car, the NYPD said.

As the train approached the 181st Street station, one of the males approached the man, flashed a weapon stashed in his waistband and demanded his property, police said.

A second member of the group then punched the man in the face and stole his Champion fanny pack, iPhone 8, AirPods, cell phone charger and Fossil wallet, according to police. All four got off the train at the 181st Street station, the NYPD said.

The attack left the man with a swollen face, but he refused medical attention, police said.

After they stole the man's belongings, the male who initially approached him tried to use one of his credit cards at a Target in East Harlem, but was unsuccessful, the NYPD said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
