NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man who pleaded guilty to forcibly rubbing his genitals on a woman collecting signatures for a petition was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.
Basam Syed, 43, signed the woman’s petition before sexually assaulting her and fleeing on foot in the summer of 2015.
He was arrested about a week later after the victim identified him online based on the information he submitted on the petition.
He pleaded guilty to persistent sexual abuse on Jan. 24.
“The sentence punishes the defendant’s lewdness and should teach him that his disgusting behavior has no place on our streets and simply will not be tolerated,” said Katz in a statement.
In addition to the three-year sentence, Syed will be subject to five years post-release supervision.
