NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 24-year-old man was stabbed in the neck outside the Randall’s Island migrant shelter on Thursday, and three people of interest are in custody, the NYPD said.

The victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem after the stabbing at 50 East River Lane, and police said that he is in stable condition.

Three suspects are in police custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

The attack comes less than two weeks after a stabbing at the same shelter left a 24-year-old man dead, and a 27-year-old asylum seeker with a murder charge.

Following that brutal killing, Mayor Eric Adams spoke about the safety at migrant shelters.

“We’re going to utilize visual technology, we’re going to put cameras in many of the sites and locations,” Adams said.

1010 WINS/WCBS 880 spoke with a migrant at the shelter, and asked if he felt safe living there.

“Sometimes, but don’t have metal detector, no have nothing. You know it’s so hard because some people is not good,” the man responded.

He also told 1010 WINS/WCBS that the stabbing involved people living at the shelter.

Adams commented that officials were looking at bringing metal detectors into shelter sites, in pursuit of public safety, but also touted the security that is currently in place.

“The security personnel that we have there, they have been doing an amazing job of ensuring that you’re not seeing a high level of disturbance at the location,” Adams said after the Jan. 6 stabbing.
