Man walking on NYC expressway killed by hit-run driver

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man walking on a Bronx expressway was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday night, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 9:15 p.m. about a man walking on the Major Deegan Expressway, police said.


When the officers arrived at the scene, they found a man lying in the middle of the roadway with severe trauma to his head and body.

EMS responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene. He has not been identified.

Police said a preliminary investigation found the man was walking northbound in the southbound lanes of the expressway, between exits 11 and 12, when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

It's not yet known why the man was walking on the roadway.

Citizen App video shows traffic backed up on the expressway amid a police investigation.

The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating. Police haven't released a description of the vehicle involved.
