NEW YORK (BLOOMBERG) -- Police arrested a man wielding a gun at a conference at an office building near Union Square in Manhattan on Friday.
The man pointed a loaded revolver at the ceiling, saying he was going to kill himself, before being tackled by an individual at 124 East 14th Street, according to law enforcement officials. The event, Wikipedia’s WikiConference North America 2025, was being held at Civic Hall, an event space in the building.
The suspect had signed up for the conference, officials said. Wikipedia didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
Robert Levine, chief executive officer of RAL, the developer for the building, said no shots were fired and that police responded immediately.
The building, known as Zero Irving, counts as tenants hedge fund firm Senator Investment Group and tech firms Melio Payments and Sigma Computing.
In July, a gunman opened fire at Blackstone Inc.’s headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, killing four people. The violence shocked the business community, spurring reviews of building security and safety protocols.
