NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A pilot and an oral surgeon from Manhattan died in a private plane crash in Colorado over the weekend, according to a report.
Upper East Side resident Ruben Cohen and Upper West Side resident David Zara were found dead in the wreckage of a Beechcraft Bonanza plane near Aspen, Colorado Sunday evening, the Daily News reported.
Their plane took off from Aspen-Pitkin County airport Saturday afternoon, the outlet reported. A friend reported them missing after they failed to arrive in Des Moines, according to the outlet.
Cohen, who had two children, “traveled the world helping children with cleft palates and facial deformities,” a relative of his told the Daily News.
“He was involved in many local organizations that helped others with the same problems,” the relative reportedly said. “He was an amazing husband, father and son.”
Zara, who founded Tradewind Aviation and Zen Air, also had two children, a spokesperson for Tradewind told the outlet.
“David was incredibly charismatic, thoughtful, and had a passion for flying,” the spokesperson said. “Our thoughts are with the Zara family and the many who were privileged to have called David a friend.”
