NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Police have arrested and charged a Bronx man with murder after a woman was fatally shot in her apartment early Saturday morning, and two boys were injured, officials said.

At about 5:13 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in progress inside 226 East 203 St. in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx.

Officers found the woman, 40, shot multiple times in the upper torso. She was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital by EMS and later pronounced dead, officials said.

The victim was identified by police as Saida Bonilla Mejia, and the scene of the shooting was her apartment.

A 16-year-old boy in the apartment was shot once in the butt, while an 8-year-old was shot once in the left arm, police said.

Medical personnel also transported the 16-year-old to St. Barnabas Hospital, while the 8-year-old was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. Both boys are in stable condition.

It was originally believed that the boys were the victim's sons, but police confirmed that they are not.

Sources told 1010 WINS that it is believed the boys are related to the victim, and the New York Daily News, who spoke to relatives of the victims, reported that both boys are Bonilla Mejia's nephews.

Rosvin A Mejia Castillo, 37, was arrested and charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault, attempted assault, six counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Mejia Castillo was reportedly the estranged boyfriend of Bonilla Mejia, and according to police, his last known address is the victim's apartment where the crime took place.

Relatives of the victim told the Daily News that Bonilla Mejia was separated from Mejia Castillo after two years, and was trying to leave him.

"He was stalking her," the victim's brother Kelvin Reyes told the Daily News. "She was living domestic violence with him. He done stuff to her before. We made reports before, but I don't know what happened."

The investigation is ongoing.
