The driver, 64-year-old Hector Ortiz, was operating a Jeep Liberty on Avenue P near West 4th Street when he made a turn and collided with the victim, Zohn Sherman, police said.

Sherman was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered trauma to his head and body. He was taken to Maimonides Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Ortiz had two children in the car with him at the time of the accident—a 6-year-old girl and 9-year-old girl—who were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police took Ortiz into custody at the scene. He faces multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
