NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey MTA worker won $1 million after playing Powerball and Mega Millions, the NJ Lottery announced last week.

Stacey Fiore, a supervisor for New York City’s MTA from Ocean County, is stationed on Staten Island. She dropped by the Quick Stop on Bay Avenue in Barnegat and purchased a quick pick for her games. Fiore jokingly had told her colleagues that they wouldn’t see her at work if she ever won, according to the lottery website.

“I checked the numbers on the (Lottery’s phone app),” Stacey said. “It said, ‘Congratulations. You won a million dollars.’”

Still not believing her own eyes, she called her husband, Greg Fiore, who works as a bus operator, to verify. He confirmed the five winning numbers: 11, 24, 50, 56, and 66.

The only difference was the Powerball number—16 was needed, but their ticket had 12. With no other tickets matching five numbers, the Powerball jackpot is now around $130 million for Saturday’s drawing.

“I told him he better not be messing with me,” Stacey joked. “And did we buy real tickets?”

The tickets were indeed real, making Stacey the 39th New Jersey Lottery draw game winner this year and the 10th Powerball player to win at least $1 million, according to the lottery website.

“I was just in shock. You wait your whole life for this, and you are still in shock,” she said.

Despite joking that she wouldn’t return to work after winning, Stacey returned to her job on Monday.
